The final race of the 2023 season, the Brigetio Time Trial, had arrived. The location was Komárom, with a distance of 19 km and the finish line near Gönyű. We set up the Cannondale according to the time trial bike fit, and I trained as hard as I could.
I wanted to race for the win.
We were started at one-minute intervals. The first section had to be ridden in regular traffic. I was really hoping I wouldn’t end up behind a slow or hesitant driver, or worse, the yellow bus. Honestly, I don’t like it, and I think it’s dangerous when a time trial is held in an area that isn’t closed off to traffic. But everything worked out, and once I reached the section designated on the bike path, I knew there wouldn’t be any more issues.
Everything fell into place, and I felt really confident. It gave me a boost of energy knowing that I caught and left behind several riders who had started minutes ahead of me.
I crossed the finish line in 27:45, averaging 40.5 km/h and 292 watts.
And I took the victory!
Ending the year with a win was the perfect way to finish, and I was absolutely delighted!
I want to thank my coach, Szilárd Buruczki, for the years we spent together and the hard work we put in. This was our farewell race, as from 2024, I’ll be racing with MBH, thanks to Szilárd’s consistent, focused, and rigorous training. Even though he took our work together very seriously, he was always, and will remain, a true friend. Thank you for your attention and for helping me take the next step! I’ll never forget our time together, and if I achieve anything in this sport, I’ll know it’s partly because of the way you trained and supported me. I’m proud to call you my friend, and I hope to race in a way that makes you proud too!
